erry Robards, one of the world's foremost wine critics, owns and operates Terry Robard's Wines & Spirits Ltd. in  Lake Placid, New York, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. In his retail business Robards, recognized as an authority on wine in many countries, specializes in wines from all over the world and is always on the alert for the best buys that made his New York Times and New York Post columns famous.

Robards pioneered as the first New York Times wine writer and was the New York Times wine columnist from 1979 to 1983, at which time he left the newspaper to become an independent journalist. He is the author of The New York Times Book of Wine, published in hard cover by Quadrangle Books in 1976 and in paperback by Avon Books in 1977. Robards was also a columnist and feature writer for the Wine Spectator and was senior managing editor and a columnist for the Wine Enthusiast magazine.

Robards is active in many wine societies. He is an Officier-Commandeur in La Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and is a member of Les Compagnons du Beaujolais, La Commanderie de Bordeaux, La Confrerie du Vin de Cahors, the Cofradia Pueurtorriquena del Vino, and L’Ordine della Vite, an Italian society that he helped to found in the United States.
